Dog Vaccination Requirements

To keep every dog healthy and happy at our Mangonui boarding kennels and doggy daycare, all dogs must meet the same vaccination requirements. Here's what we need, why it matters, and how to check before you book.

What we need for every stay

All dogs staying at Doubtless Bay Pet Resort must have current vaccinations, renewed yearly, or every 3 years where your vet has given a 3-year dose. If your dog's vaccinations have been kept up to date with no gaps, they can stay any time, even straight after a booster. If they have lapsed, or it is a first course, your dog needs to wait 7 to 10 days after vaccination before staying, as advised by your vet and the vaccine maker.

  • 5-in-1 vaccination DHPPI
  • Leptospirosis vaccination Lepto
  • Kennel Cough vaccination Bordetella
7 to 10 days Wait after a first or catch-up vaccination. No wait if vaccinations have been kept up to date.

Please check your dog's vaccination records with your veterinarian before booking.

Dog Vaccination Requirements

Why vaccinations matter

Wherever dogs get together, contagious illnesses can spread more easily. Vaccination helps your dog's immune system recognise these diseases, so it greatly lowers the chance of serious illness. It reduces the risk rather than removing it completely, which is why we ask every dog in our care to meet the same requirements.

  • Canine distemper

A virus that can affect the lungs, gut and nervous system. It spreads through coughing and sneezing.

    Covered by: 5-in-1

  • Canine adenovirus

A virus that mainly affects the liver (infectious canine hepatitis). It spreads through contact with an infected dog's urine, saliva or droppings.

    Covered by: 5-in-1

  • Canine parvovirus

A hardy virus that causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea, especially in young dogs. It can survive on the ground and on surfaces for a long time.

    Covered by: 5-in-1

  • Canine parainfluenza

A virus that causes a dry, hacking cough and is one of the common causes of kennel cough.

    Covered by: 5-in-1

  • Leptospirosis

A bacterial infection spread through the urine of rats and farm animals, often in puddles, streams and wet ground. It can affect the liver and kidneys and can pass to people.

    Covered by: Leptospirosis vaccine

  • Bordetella

Bacteria commonly linked to kennel cough. It spreads through the air and shared bowls or toys wherever dogs mix.

    Covered by: Kennel Cough vaccine

Your pre-arrival checklist

Run through these before you bring your dog to stay.

  1. Check that your dog's vaccination records are current.
  2. Confirm that your dog has received the required 5-in-1 (DHPPI), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough vaccinations.
  3. If vaccinations have lapsed or it is a first course, make sure 7 to 10 days have passed since vaccination, as advised by your vet.
  4. Keep your vaccination certificate or veterinary records available.
  5. Contact us before arrival if you are unsure whether your dog's vaccinations meet our requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Can my dog stay straight after their vaccinations?

Yes, if their vaccinations have been kept up to date with no gaps, even if the booster was only just done. If their vaccinations have lapsed, or it is their first course, they need to wait 7 to 10 days after vaccination, as advised by your vet and the vaccine maker. Please check your dog's vaccination records with your veterinarian.

Which vaccinations are required?

We require the 5-in-1 (DHPPI), Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough vaccinations, kept current. We accept yearly boosters, or a 3-year dose if that is what your vet has given.

What if I am unsure whether my dog is fully vaccinated?

Please contact your veterinarian to confirm your dog's vaccination status, then contact Doubtless Bay Pet Resort if you need clarification about our requirements.

Why do you require vaccinations?

Vaccinations help protect dogs against contagious diseases and support the health and safety of the dogs in our care.

Can I book if my dog's vaccinations are not up to date?

Please contact us before making arrangements so we can clarify our requirements and discuss the appropriate next steps.

Do you accept 3-year vaccinations?

Yes. If your vet has given a 3-year dose, that is fine, as long as it is still current on your dog's vaccination record. Please bring the record so we can check the dates.

Disease information is general and educational. Always follow your own veterinarian's advice for your dog.
